Experience the incredible wildlife of the surrounding jungle
Duration 4.5 Hours
As soon as your cruise ship arrives at Costa Maya Port embark on a shore excursion to the Mayan city of Chacchoben. Where you will discover the archeological site as you admire Mayan pyramids that were only discovered in the late 20th century. We will drive deep into the jungle where the Mayan city once lay buried under foliage. Walk around the archeological ruins of Chacchoben. See several reconstructed temple pyramids and with Mayan hieroglyphics, you may spot native plants and animals like the howler monkeys and armadillos. Afterward, you will be back to the beach to have a refreshing drink or taste some tequila until it is time to go back to the ship where we will supply transportation for you.

Costa Maya has some great opportunities to explore Mayan ruins, along with other nice excursions on boat or four wheeler. If beaches are your thing there is a nice tourist beach at the port, and a nice local beach in town... Beautiful waters and extremely friendly people.

I loved it. It's so beautiful. It's a shame that it's becoming more of a tourist attraction because a lot of trash is being left behind. If you visit, make sure you take your trash with you and throw it in a trash can where it belongs. Respect the place.

Accidentally discovered the Chunky Monkey while exploring via golf cart. Needless to say next time we are at this port we won’t even bother renting a golf cart, I would just take a taxi straight here. We aren’t the big party type of people and this place was perfect! It’s run/owned by a father and son and they just opened at the end of 2021. The service is phenomenal and the food is amazing. They make everything fresh and have access to pretty much anything that comes out of the ocean from local fishermen. My wife still raves about their margaritas. We spent all day here eating and drinking and the bill was $84. My wife thought there had been a mistake considering how much we had bought.
If you want a truly local place, stop here, skip the places that they try to push you into at the port.
